Since time immemorial, the Himalayas has been recognized as the sanctuary for ascetics and sages.That's Why it is Known as DevBhumi or "Land Of the Gods".The region of Himachal Pradesh was inhabited by the local tribes known as 'Dasas' during the ancient time and later on many other clans, tribes and dynasties like Aryans, Guptas,Mauryan, Kushanas, Kannauj rulers assimilated with the Dasas of Himachal Pradesh.Himachal takes its name from the Himalayas. Himachal literally means 'Land of snowy mountains'. Himalayas, the great mountain system extends almost 2,500 Km., from North-West to South-East and width of Himalayas is between 250 to 300 Km.
